Preparing for War: the Global Military Budget+перевод

$2.24 trillion in US dollars is a mighty amount. It’s also a sickening figure when considering the object of this exercise. The flickering tease of war, the promise of bloodshed and an increasingly large butcher’s bill, are inevitable suggestions from such a figure. The scenes are also clear: well-paid suits dazed by theories of the next war; policy wonks jabbering over mock war games. A huge amount of money is being pushed into the venture, and the sceptics are being held at bay. Much of this news comes from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute’s latest findings that countries are ... Читать далее

Capitalism is Antithetical to Democracy+перевод

Most Americans would likely be surprised to know that, according to a respected international poll taken in 2022, far more Chinese (83%) perceive China to be democratic than Americans (49%) perceive the US to be. And while culture war rationales were amongst the choices available to Americans to explain the difference, they chose ‘corruption’ (78%), ‘corporate control of the political system’ (72%), and the ‘power of Big Tech’ (66%) as the leading explanations for the dearth of democracy in the US. Sensurround sound in a two-inch wall I was waiting for the communist call I dared to ask for sunshine, ... Читать далее

100 Million People In The US Are Saddled With Health Care Debt+перевод

Elizabeth Woodruff drained her retirement account and took on three jobs after she and her husband were sued for nearly $10,000 by the New York hospital where his infected leg was amputated. Ariane Buck, a young father in Arizona who sells health insurance, couldn’t make an appointment with his doctor for a dangerous intestinal infection because the office said he had outstanding bills. Allyson Ward and her husband loaded up credit cards, borrowed from relatives, and delayed repaying student loans after the premature birth of their twins left them with $80,000 in debt. Ward, a nurse practitioner, took on extra ... Читать далее

The Indiana fire disaster: Another case of US industry polluting and killing with virtual impunity+перевод

The sky over Richmond, Indiana, a former industrial city of 35,000 people on the Ohio border, was filled with a massive plume of toxic black smoke Tuesday after a plastics recycling facility in the middle of the city was consumed by flames, endangering the health of thousands across the region. A voluntary evacuation order was issued for anyone living within a half-mile radius of the inferno, prompting approximately 2,000 people to flee from their homes. Those in the city living outside the evacuation zone were advised to stay inside, turn off their ventilation systems, keep windows and doors closed and ... Читать далее

Seymour Hersh: The Nord Stream Ghost Ship+перевод

America’s Central Intelligence Agency is constantly running covert operations around the world, and all must have a cover story in case things go badly, as they often do. It is just as important to have an explanation when things go well, as they did in the Baltic Sea last fall. Within weeks of my report that Joe Biden ordered the destruction of the Nord Stream pipelines, the agency produced a cover story and found willing takers in the New York Times and two major German publications. The False Details In The CIA’s Cover Story America’s Central Intelligence Agency is constantly ... Читать далее

The United States and Human Rights: a History of Hypocrisy+перевод

The United States is a human rights hypocrite. No country has been more aggressive in lecturing others about human rights and no country has been less willing to take part in international efforts to halt crimes against the peace or even genocide. The United States has been one of the major obstacles in the creation of an international military force under the auspices of the United Nations to prevent “crimes against the peace.” Thanks to Charlie Savage’s excellent reporting in the New York Times, we currently find the Pentagon blocking the efforts of the United States to share intelligence with ... Capitalism in Black and Blue +перевод

Policing is inextricably linked to racism and to capitalism. There are two very frightening realities faced by the capitalist ruling class - their smaller numbers in relation to the majority, and their inability to derive profit without exploited human labor. Since they are the sole owners of the means of production (the factories, land and machines) – with an essential armed force to protect that ownership – they have irreconcilable differences with the majority of people who, instead of owning those means, are exploited by them. We can’t even decide how the profits created by our labor, which turns into ... Читать далее

Over 90 percent of Europeans worry about the rising cost of living+перевод

The latest Eurobarometer survey found that 93 percent of Europeans are very concerned about the rising cost of living. High food and energy prices meant nearly 40 percent of the EU population are already struggling to pay for things, and almost one in two says his or her standard of living has fallen. Another 39 percent expected their standard of living to fall this year. For the Eurobarometer survey, some 27,000 citizens were interviewed in all 27 EU member states in October and November last year. The survey was commissioned by the European Parliament and published last week. In it, ... Читать далее

AMERICA’S NEW CLASS WAR + перевод

There is one last hope for the United States. It does not lie in the ballot box. It lies in the union organizing and strikes by workers at Amazon, Starbucks, Uber, Lyft, John Deere, Kellogg, the Special Metals plant in Huntington, West Virginia, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, the Northwest Carpenters Union, Kroger, teachers in Chicago, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Arizona, fast-food workers, hundreds of nurses in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Organized workers, often defying their timid union leadership, are on the march across the United States. Over four million workers, about ... Читать далее

The Super Immunity of Our Fabulously Wealthy Corporate Dictators + перевод

The Robber Barons of old have nothing on this new class of digital oligarchs. Ever since the heads of East India Trading Company (1600) and Hudson Bay Company (1670), were incorporated by English Royal charters, there have been corporate dictators. Their range and actions, have varied widely however. Today's new corporate dictators shatter past restraints. John D. Rockefeller ruled the Standard Oil Company monopoly until the trust busters from Washington broke up its giant price-fixing and predatory practices into several companies. Andrew Carnegie was the ruler of the giant Carnegie Steel Company (which became U.S. Steel Corporation). Carnegie violently broke ... Читать далее

Radioactive Contamination Is Seeping Into Drinking Water Around the US + перевод

Mining, fracking and other activities are increasing the levels of harmful isotopes in water supplies. When Jeni Knack moved to Simi Valley, California, in 2018, she had no idea that her family’s new home was within 5 miles of a former nuclear and rocket testing laboratory, perched atop a plateau and rife with contamination. Radioactive cesium-137, strontium-90, plutonium-239 and tritium, along with a mix of other toxic chemicals and heavy metals, are known to have been released at the industrial site through various spills, leaks, the use of open-air burn pits and a partial nuclear meltdown. Once Knack learned about ... Читать далее

Liberals Drive State Censorship + перевод

Liberals are the force behind censorship efforts. They defend the state and seek to silence anyone who questions its narratives. Twice in the month of April Barack Obama spoke about “disinformation.” First at the University of Chicago and then at Stanford University he claimed that democracy is at risk because of social media. Democracy is certainly at risk but not because of anyone’s tweets. His words were really meant to frighten Americans into accepting censorship should anyone dare to present a narrative that differs from the state’s. Of course, that isn’t what Obama said. He spoke of Trump’s claims of ... Читать далее
